The 6th graders have been studying the legend of Aeneas, a Trojan warrior who escaped to become the ancestor of the Roman people. Vergil’s Aeneid is the best known work to describe this hero’s adventures and was widely popular throughout Roman and Medieval times. In addition to hearing some of the stories recounted in this Latin classic, the 6th graders memorized the famous opening lines, speaking about the gods, war, exile, and destiny. Here are two of the several brave girls who were inspired to volunteer first.
