The 8th grade performed “The Little Prince.” The two main roles were split between three girls each. The staging was very creative and the girls did a great job. Thanks go to our theater teacher, Cynthia Leal, for leading both our 7th grade and 8th grade girls on their terrific plays.

7th Grade Drama Performance
Our class is wrote plays about social change. Each group took a fairytale and changed something about it. One group took “The Little Red Hen,” and changed it to “The Little Red Head.” Their play was about a class that you get to see grow up from kindergarten to college. Another group used the fairy tale “The Three Princes.” They changed the story so that it examined stereotypes (”hot” guys, nerds, etc.). The third group did the fairytale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” They changed the genders of Snow White and the handsome Prince to show that you can do anything, no matter what your gender. Overall, the plays were exciting, fun, and very creative! –Grace Bostic, 7th Grade
Guest Dance Instructors
This week, our dance teacher was busy teaching in New York City. In her place, two instructors from the Blue Ridge Irish Music School taught the 7th and 8th graders. The girls had a great time learning a new style of dance.

Village School Holiday Craft Fair
On Saturday, December 5, the sixth graders sponsored the 9th Annual Village School Holiday Craft Fair. Girls from all grades sold sweets, bags, scarves, jewelry, dolls, and all sorts of other hand-crafted items. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the 5th, 7th, and 8th grade sales was donated to Operation Smile, a charity that is dedicated to healing cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities. The gift totaled $700. Twenty percent (about $160) of the 6th grade proceeds went toward their class fund. What an enjoyable day of crafts and community.

School Trip to the American Shakespeare Center
The trip to Staunton was really fun, and everyone had a good time. We all had first period class, and then we all got ready to leave. When we got there, it was pouring rain. Some kids and parents took a shortcut through the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. It was really nice. The play was really good. They sang and danced to some modern songs, such as “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” by Cyndi Lauper. After the show, we went to the Mockingbird Café. It was a very nice restaurant, and we even met some of the actors from the show there. One of the actors did a little dance for some passing eighth graders. –Marta Rampini, 6th Grade

8th Grade “Fashion” Show
This week the eighth grade gave a fashion show. They studied different textiles in science class and created gorgeous outfits from materials such as duct tape and magazines. The eighth graders worked very hard on their projects and were glad to show them to the school. If you weren’t lucky enough to be at the show, you can watch the movie on the Village School website!
