The weekend of festivities for the ten year anniversary of Jambalaya came off without a hitch. The racers ran fast, the jambalaya was delicious, the square dancing wild, and the reading inspired. Look below for more.

Jambalaya Ten Year Celebration
Jambalaya Two-Mile Fun Run
Students, little sisters and brothers, older siblings, and parents all came out to show their support for Jambalaya by running and volunteering for the Jambalaya Two-Mile Fun Run. Everyone had a blast weaving through downtown neighborhoods, getting some exercise, eating Spudnuts, and enjoying a sense of community.

Jambalaya Feast and Square Dance
On Saturday night at Christ Church, taste buds were tantalized with many different jambalaya creations. All were unique and all were delicious. After feasting on the southern classic, square dancing started upstairs. A caller led the dancers through the steps while the band accompanied with fantastic old-time music. Thank you to Heather Warren for beautifully organizing the whole event. What a fun night!

Fun Fair 2010
On Saturday, the 7th grade sponsored Village School’s annual Fun Fair at Pen Park. There were many fun games for kids of all ages, multiple cake walks, a derby race (won by Kellyn Kusyk), delicious hot dogs and other foods, and of course, our huge raffle. Thanks to 7th grade parents Gail Hoerr and Jennifer Vettel for volunteering to organize the Fun Fair; your hard work made for a fun-filled day!

Take Our Daughters to Work Day
On Thursday, April 29, Village School had “Take Our Daughters to Work Day.” The girls were split into two groups. Group 1 met with Bob Kusyk and Casey Kerrigan about their shoe company, OESH, then went to the Paramount Theater, Payne Ross & Associates, and the New Dominion Bookshop. Group 2 visited VMDO Architects, Channel 29 News, and the Paramount Theater. The girls really enjoyed all of their experiences and got to see a wide variety of careers paths. Many thanks to Maggie Thacker for organizing this important event.

Fashion Club
In the third quarter, the fashion club discussed fashion, previewed fashion, and created designs of their own. Using paper and a few other items, the girls worked hard to make their fashions come to life. If you have any questions about what to wear in the coming season, you know who to ask! It was a great quarter!

Oscar Night Dance Party
The School Spirit Club recently hosted “Oscar Night,” a school dance full of games, snacks, and (most importantly) dancing. Students paid $5 for dinner, dessert, and a fun-filled evening. They had the options of Movie Jeopardy (hosted by Mr. Knorr), watching a movie, or simply jamming out to their favorite tunes in the lunch room. To make the party even more exciting, multiple costume awards were given out, the prize being a Cappelinos Crazy Cake. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, “Oscar Night” turned out to be quite a success! –Lauren Kearns

Girls’ Night Out
On Thursday, April 1, Village School held its benefit concert for The Haven at First and Main, Girls’ Night Out. The music was wonderful. Thanks so much to Erin James for organizing the event and thanks to Erin, our own student Jayme, Genna Matthew, Carleigh Nesbit, and Jan Smith for their outstanding performances. And, of course, thanks to all who bought tickets and made donations–we raised nearly $2,000 for The Haven and its worthy cause.
