Take Our Daughters to Work Day

Take Our Daughters to Work Day

On Thursday, April 29, Village School had “Take Our Daughters to Work Day.” The girls were split into two groups. Group 1 met with Bob Kusyk and Casey Kerrigan about their shoe company, OESH, then went to the Paramount Theater, Payne Ross & Associates, and the New Dominion Bookshop. Group 2 visited VMDO Architects, Channel 29 News, and the Paramount Theater. The girls really enjoyed all of their experiences and got to see a wide variety of careers paths. Many thanks to Maggie Thacker for organizing this important event.

Thomas Jefferson Visits!

Thomas Jefferson

Steven Edenbo, a Thomas Jefferson reenactor, visited Village School on Thursday. “Mr Jefferson” was both entertaining, and thought-provoking. Important issues such as the role of the presidency, women’s rights, and slavery were all presented through Jefferson’s perspective. Mr. Edenbo portrayed how Jefferson’s wisdom was vast in its scope, yet it was still limited by his historical milieu.

Greg Mortenson Visits

The Virginia Festival of the Book brought many wonderful visits from authors to our community, but one that will remain in our minds for a long time is our visit from Greg Mortenson. Village School was very lucky to host the author of Three Cups of Tea for a presentation and lunch with our students on Friday, March 28th.

The girls raised more than $9,000 in the Pennies for Peace drive to give to Mr. Mortenson to help him build a school for girls in Pakistan or Afghanistan. It was a truly memorable day and everyone was affected by Mr. Mortenson’s wisdom. We are excited to keep helping in any way that we can.
