Summer in the City
Solve Like a Girl: To Infinity and Beyond! (rising 3rd -7th grade)
June 17 to 21, 9:00am-3:00pm
Girls will explore the concept of infinity as it relates to shapes, arithmetic, and models of practical situations. Asymptotes, fractals, exponential decay, multiples, circles and more will be explored as we get to know how “infinity” plays out in mathematics and in the real world. Campers will also have the opportunity to grow their toolbox of strategies for tackling developmentally appropriate contest math problems. We will learn and have fun through art, games, problem-solving, hands-on modeling, and field trips.
Hands-on History! (rising 5th-7th grade)
July 15-19, 9:00am-3:00pm
Hands-on history is an exploratory full-day camp filled with crafting and field trips! We will visit local history sites and take a few day trips within a two hour drive from Charlottesville. We’ll also explore what life was like for Virginians in the past with crafts including embroidery, candle-making, and more! If you love imagining the past and getting creative, this is the perfect camp for you.
Note to repeat campers: Although some activities will be familiar to you from last year, this year’s camp will feature several new field trips and crafts. You are welcome to join us again!
Poetry, Popsicles, and Prose (rising 5th – 8th grade)
July 8- 12, 9:00am-3:00pm
Unleash your creativity (and discover the best popsicles in town 🙂 in this week-long writing workshop! You will have the freedom to write what you want (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, songs!) while also learning specific tools and techniques that are crucial to all types of writing. We will explore a variety of writing, use fun prompts to spark inspiration and creativity, and we will sample sweet treats from local spots around town! Throughout the week you will have the opportunity to share ideas, work on something new or a work-in-progress, get feedback, and refine your work.

Makeup and Special FX Camp (rising 6th – 9thgrade) FULL
July 22-26, 9:00am-1:00pm
Create gorgeous models and gruesome monsters in our SFX camp! Let your imagination take you for a ride as you learn the art of using special effects makeup to transform yourself and fellow campers into fairy princesses, wild animals, ghosts or zombies. Learn everything from basic tips for everyday makeup to how to create fake wounds for the big screen. Weekly camps from 9:00am-1:00pm
Storyland Adventures (rising 1st-3rd grade)
Unleash your imagination this summer in an arts and theatrical camp inspired by favorite animated movie themes. Weekly camps are from 9:00am-1:00pm and are packed with acting, improv, singing, dancing, costume, and set design, ending with a creative showcase every Friday for family and friends.
