Student Life @ Village School
Village School Winter Concert
After some delay due to snow, the Village School Concert was held Sunday, February 28 at The Haven at First and Market. The chorus opened the program, followed by the Woodwind Choir, the Beginning Orchestra, and closed out by the Orchestra. The venue was lovely and the performances outstanding.

Knitting Olympics Closing Ceremony
The Knitting Olympics has come to a close. What a success! Village School girls and teachers knitted over 125 scarves! The scarves will be donated to the Martha Jefferson Cancer Center and will be presented at their Celebration of Life Ceremony on March 28.
To finish up the Olympics, the girls had to measure the length and width of each of their scarves and calculate the total area. The Olympic President, Ms. Duncan, tallied the scores–The Lonely Island took bronze, LololagvischĂ© grabbed silver, and Casmeccebe came out on top with the gold.
Great work girls!

8th Grade Energy Demonstrations
The 8th graders used simple demonstrations to show that energy forms are either potential or kinetic. Potential energy comes in forms that are stored, including—chemical, gravitational, mechanical, and nuclear. Kinetic energy forms are doing work and produce electricity, heat, light, motion, and sound.

Village School Basketball
As part of Piedmont YMCA, Village School sponsored five basketball teams–one from each grade with the 7th graders having two teams. The teams were generously coached by Village School dads, and the girls had a fun season of learning new skills and, most importantly, teamwork.

2010 Knitting Olympics
Over the past week and the next week, Village School is hosting its very own Knitting Olympics along with a canned food drive. The students worked with their advisory groups to create a fictional country, flag, and anthem, and they are competing against each other to see which team can knit the most scarves. The scarves will be given to patients at the University of Virginia Cancer Center. For the canned food drive, our goal is to donate one ton of non-perishable food items for the Emergency Food Bank.
